There have been few refill options in our range for those of you who don't live near a Soeder store or a partner store with a refill station. It was important to us to change that, because our glass bottles are refillable - that's central to our philosophy. We want them to have a second, third, fourth life. Now, with the new Shippable Refill bottle, we've found a solution that we're happy with. We are initially offering our natural soap in this 1-liter bottle, with other products to follow.
As a material, we have opted for a plastic variant that consists of 60 percent polyethylene granules. This is obtained by the Danish company Plastix from plastic waste collected from the world's oceans and harbors. As a new raw material, they are given a second life. As you probably know, we are generally critical of plastic as a material. In this case, however, we were convinced not only by the use of an already existing material, but also by its recyclability.
Of course, the empty refill bottles can be recycled: Just return them to a Soeder store. Since the recycling chain for HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) is not yet as well regulated as for PET, we have teamed up with Swiss recycling expert Mr. Green to return the bottles to the production cycle. Unfortunately, it will no longer become a soap bottle, but it will, for example, become a drainage pipe. Of course, you can also return the bottle at any normal recycling station, for example, in the nearest supermarket.
You may wonder why only 60 percent of the bottle is made of marine plastic. The answer lies in the law: a care product may not be sold in packaging whose origin is not traceable, and this is of course the case with recycled waste. However, our goal is to drastically reduce or eliminate the new plastic used in the medium term. We'll keep at it, we promise.
